Need Proof You’re Tax Compliant? The IRS Has a New Tool

The IRS has added a new feature to its online individual tax account that may make it easier to provide proof of your tax compliance when you need it. Taxpayers can now download an authenticated Tax Compliance Report (TCR) directly through their IRS online account. The report shows whether you have been keeping up with your federal tax filing and payment requirements. Your Tax Compliance Report can include information such as:
Whether your federal tax returns were filed on time
Your tax filing history
Whether you have any taxes currently owed
Any late tax payments or returns
Whether you are considered compliant or noncompliant with your federal tax obligations
A TCR may be requested when applying for certain jobs, government benefits, loans, or other situations where proof of tax compliance is needed.
What Else Can You Do Through Your IRS Online Account?
Your IRS online account gives you access to several helpful tax tools, including the ability to:
Make tax payments and estimated tax payments
Access tax transcripts
View digital IRS notices
Check the status of your tax refund or amended return
Apply for a payment plan
Make other tax-related payments and remittances
If you don't already have an IRS online account, you'll need to create one and verify your identity through ID.me. The verification process may require you to submit a photo of a government-issued ID along with a selfie, or complete a live video verification with an ID.me representative. Having an online IRS account can make it easier to access your tax information without having to wait for documents to arrive by mail or contact the IRS for every request.
