One Big Beautiful Bill (OB3) Lifetime Estate Exemption

The 2025 lifetime estate exemption amount is $13.99M.  Effective 2026, the amount increases to $15M, and is indexed for inflation each year thereafter. 

The estate portability is still in effect, so the surviving spouse can timely file a form to essentially double his/her lifetime estate exemption to $30M.  The permanence of this provision makes it easier for accounting and legal professionals to help taxpayers with estate planning.
